Should You Hold Over Weekends?
StatsEdgeTrading
A great Discord question after Black Friday’s five percent dump: our swing systems open during the week and close on Monday. What if we close on Friday to avoid weekend risk? I re-ran the tests across 25 years. Result: closing on Monday wins by roughly two to three percent per year. Friday exits trim volatility and shave the max drawdown a bit, but you give up some return. Our baseline remains about thirty four percent yearly with about fifteen percent max drawdown when using Monday exits.
This is where systematic trading shines. You see the stats, pick the version that matches your sleep tolerance, and then you stick to it. Do not switch because one weekend gapped your way. Choose the rule that works in all seasons and let it run.
Action plan
• Pick Monday or Friday now and codify it.
• Size so a larger drawdown will not knock you off plan.
• Review annually, not reactively.
