Trade the Chop: My Election-Year Playbook
StatsEdgeTrading
Choppy week, and the data says it can persist. Election-cycle seasonality typically trends → stalls → trends. We’re in the stall: ranges, head-fakes, and a VIX that can pop. SPY’s weekly looks “fine,” but a line chart says net-net we’ve gone nowhere; RSI is grinding—momentum is thinner.
3 quick edges:
• Don’t chase every breakout. In chop, failed highs are common. Save momentum bullets for A+ leaders who hold gains.
• Lean on mean reversion & pullbacks. Buy strength on dips into prior R→S zones and gaps; take base hits, roll the capital. (Think SNOW-style pullback triggers vs. fresh highs.)
• Shorten hold times / consider intraday. High vol = larger intraday excursions. Systematic day trades can monetize the noise without marrying exposure.
Action plan this week: prioritize pullback and mean-reversion scans; keep momentum systems on “selective.” If VIX spikes, tighten risk and let time-stops do the work.
